Mr Doleh started building the house in 1965
“I wanted a bungalow so I obtained a licence specifically for that.
"I figured I’d sell the land and relocate the house when land prices increased.”
"I changed my mind and built a “bungalow set on pillars” instead".
“Photos and movies about China and Japan inspired me.
"Later, I travelled to Thailand and realised my design was Indochinese.”

I remember seeing the Pagoda for the first time
I later found out the house was built and owned by Zakaria Ebrahim Khalel Doleh
Sometimes I'd see Mr Doleh at the Dubai Country Club
I drove past the Pagoda for over 10 years on my way to Port Rashid
Now, forty years later, I can watch this video and
learn from Mr Doleh the Pagoda's history
