Wadis are dry river beds that are not always dry!
In early 1970s Wadis were mostly inaccessible to Dubai's growing Expat population
By late 1970s Expats had 4WD Vehicles and began exploring Dubai's Wadis
Wadis can flood during the rainy season
When that happens, Wadis are both beautiful and dangerous!
I had some overseas visitors to entertain.
What better way to show then Dubai as it really is (or was) by taking them for a drive in Hatta's Wadis.
Dubai had not experienced any recent rains but Hatta must have.
Flooded tracks greeted us as we drove into the Wadi
Waterfalls were formed by the fast flowing water stream. My Visitors were impressed!
Wadis during rain are dangerous places
Flash floods cause a torrent of water to rush down the Wadi.
Force of the flowing water easily washes cars and people away
Golden Rule is to leave the Wadi immediately dark clouds start to form
Staying in the Wadi until you are sure it will rain maybe too late.
People have died waiting to see if it will rain.
