In the background is the Dubai Flour Mills and its storage silos.

Silos were located inside Port Rashid while Dubai Flour Mills was located outside Port Rashid on (what was then) the Falcon Roundabout.

Grain was moved by road truck from the ship to the Silo.

Grain was then moved from the Silo to Dubai Flour Mills by an underground Conveyor Belt

Dubai's First Kawasaki Jet Ski 1974

Kawasaki Motors Corporation of Japan introduced the world's first Personal Water Craft (PWC) - the Jet Ski in 1973.
Dubai's first Kawasaki Jet Ski was imported by Gray Mackenzie and Company shortly after that.
Kawasaki described its new Jet Ski as "an exciting new way to enjoy the water".
Water sports were already growing in Dubai in the mid 1970s with water skiing on Dubai Creek,
SCUBA Diving offshore and Sailing from small sail boats to offshore sailing cruisers.

Staff Benefits!!

Gray Mackenzie did not promote the Kawasaki Jet Ski commercially.

This lone Jet Ski provided water borne entertainment for Gray Mackenzie's staff.
Nevertheless Gray Mackenzie were keen to show their newly acquired Kawasaki Jet Ski to the visiting Chairman of the Inchcape Group, the late Lord Inchcape.
Gray Mackenzie and Co was part of the Inchcape Group.
This original "stand-up" model, with a powerful 400cc engine and handlebar steering, allowed a person to effectively water ski without need of a powerboat.
Staying upright on this device was a challenge, especially in choppy water.

Gray Mackenzie decided on a dry land demonstration
for their respected Chairman!

L to R: Capt Ian Butcher (Harbourmaster), partly hidden Capt Arthur Jarman (Port Manager), Lord Inchcape, George Chapman Director Gray Mackenzie and Company, Khalid Al Khalifa Assistant Port Manager

This "dry land" Jet ski demonstration took place in Port Rashid's Coastal Berth
