Britih Petroleum was the successor to The Anglo Iranian Oil Company with oil interestes around the Gulf.

Anglo Iranina Oil Company ceased to exits when Ian nationalised its oil resources. British Government became the major shareholder in the newly formed ritish Petroleum so BP effectively became an arm of the British Government.

BP held oil concession in the Trucial States as well as worlwide. Over time BP sold off their oil concession in Dubai to US Continental Oil Company leading to the establishment of Dubai Petroleum Company
