Did you know?

Deira Tower in Bani Yas Square completed construction in 1980

Apparently Deira Tower was built with the intention of a Revolving Roof Top

Revolving Roof Top was built but the revolving machinery was not installed

That may have been due to financial constraints in the late 1970s

Bani Yas Square as it used to be

Deira's main square is now called Bani Yas Square.

Before that it was named Gamal Abdel Nasr Square in recognition of Egypt's Pan Arab Leader after he died 28 September 1970.

Previous names may have Deira Square or Cinema Square (Al Wattan Cinema was located in the Square), Taxi Square or simply the Square in Deira.

Whatever its name, the Square has always been the centre of Deiraside and focus of Deira's commercial activity.

The Square was also home to Jashanamal's first store and Al Wattan Open Air Cinema
